After a republican congressman embarrassed himself by publicly calling the President of the United States a Liar at a joint meeting of Congress, the term “You Lie” has entered common language used by many others. Mostly in a joking way.
Or, maybe he wasn’t all that embarrassed. He just said what many others were thinking and blurted out his feelings. That has happened to members of both political parties, I just am surprised every time I hear something like that on National TV.
The State of the Union Address is coming right up and that will be the news of the day or week this week. Will we have a repeat of something embarrassing?
And it goes both ways…..Senate Majority leader Harry Reid once called President Bush a ‘loser’ at a meeting with school children. Seems like the Senator from Nevada is the one who will be probably be “the loser” come next election time in Nevada.
So, with charges and counter charges flying around and getting louder…..who is lying and who is not. And how do you know the difference?
And you do know there are primary elections coming up in March of THIS year, don’t you?
The Texas Governor’s race is the race to watch here in The Great State, but there are issues, both locally and nationally where only a “Truth O Meter” could tell the difference. Fortunately, there is such a device. Just click on the link for more information….really good stuff!
Here is some more info on the Truth O Meter:
PolitiFact Texas is a partnership of the Austin American-Statesman and PolitiFact.com, a Pulitzer Prize-winning Web site of the St. Petersburg Times, to help you find the truth in politics. I know, the Austin American-Statesman IS in Austin……but, the truth is the truth also. Here is what they say:
Every day, reporters and researchers from the American-Statesman examine statements by Texas elected officials and candidates and anyone else who speaks up on matters of public importance. We research their statements and then rate the accuracy on our Truth-O-Meter – True, Mostly True, Half True, Barely True and False. The most ridiculous falsehoods get our lowest rating, Pants on Fire.
When you hear some particularly outrageous statement from a politician – from any political party or affiliation, the odds are good that the statement will be investigated by the “Truth O Meter” folks.
I just love stuff like this. There needs to be more resources for us Real Texas folks to find out the truth this political season. While on the site, you can check Rick Perry’s file and Kay Bailey Hutchison’s file. I’m ‘all in’ for tellin’ the truth from all political parties. If they don’t, vote ’em out!

As it turned out, the one who said those now famous words, “You lie” was actually telling the truth; the president was lying.
Of course, you could almost say that about anything he has said, starting with and including his actual eligibility to be president.
David, thanks for the Truth O’ Meter. I never knew about this website and I, like you, just love sites like this! I’m sending the link to my friends!

we’ve come a long way from watching a guy mark a chalk board on election night in downtown big lake, texas…one of my mother’s favorite things to do…she would make us a snack and put our jammies on us and pitch us in the car with blankets and pillows flowing, drive us downtown (8 blocks), park the car and watch the chalkboard…it was the same routine with the drive-in…but that’s another story…
