Texas Music
Here’s a new feature for Real Texas Blog. It’s called music video Friday. My good intention is to post one or more of my favorite videos every Friday. Most of the videos are by Texas based artists. Now there are a few caveats and warnings in general. My taste is music is probably not all that refined. However, if you know the definition of eclectic, then you will find out that my taste in music runs the gamut from Earnest Tubb to Los Lonely Boys, and from Janis Joplin to ZZ Topp.
Of course we will have some Jerry Jeff, Robert Earl Keen, Roy Orbison, Ledbelly, Townes Van Zandt, Ray Price, Doug Sahm, Billy Joe Shaver, Peggy Lee, T. Gozney Thornton, and the king of Texas Music George Strait. That is just a sampling of what will be coming on Video Fridays here at Real Texas Blog.
Yes, we will also be taking requests. If you have a favorite, let me know. Try to make it a Texas based artist if possible.
So, here we go with the first installment of Video Friday here at Real Texas Blog. We’ll start it off with three videos for you. enjoy!
Real Texas Notes: This video features Billy Joe Shaver and his son Eddie. Eddie is now deceased and it just about killed Billie Joe and his family after Eddie’s death. So, this video is just as much about
Eddie and his guitar abilities as it is about his father, the legendary Billy Joe Shaver.
Here’s another Billy Joe Shaver….I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal.
The next Video is Willie and Los Lonely Boys. Los Lonely boys are a favorite of mine and this song goes back to the early 70’s. I believe it was first sung by the group named “War.”
Some of you old folks might remember it and some of you young folks might like it! I just liked the beat…and on it goes.
Hope you enjoyed the first of Video Friday here at Real Texas Blog. I have quite a collection of Texas based artists and a different artist will be featured each week.
I’m David out in Real Texas
Enjoying some good Texas Music!

I now have another reason to relax and enjoy Saturday mornings. Can’t wait ’til next Saturday, getting me a cup of fresh brewed coffee, sitting back and enjoying Video Friday on Real Texas Blog! Good idea and great job! My request are Jody Nix and Kevin Fowler.
Well guys, this give me another reason to get out of bed on the weekends. I have enjoyed Billy Joes music or many years, and I am glad to see the old thye old f–t back and making good music.
I think it is “altogether fitting and proper” that Billy Joe Shaver w/son Eddie be the very first. Billy Joe sings
what he has lived!! My son Josh & I went to hear Billy Joe at nearly every opportunity. Josh was, like Eddie, a
natural on the bass (according to his friends). They both died tragically & too young. Josh’s sisters chose “I’m gona’
live forever….” by Billy Joe as one of the songs at his funeral. I think it was Willie Nelson who said that B.J.S. is
the greatest songwriter living. Also, his book–can’t recall the title– is a good read, and it helps to appreciate his music even more!! I’d like to request Gary P. Nunn’s
“Honkin’ out some Hank…”
