Editor’s Note:
M.T. Whallette is a poet of unusual insight. Please notice the sound of his name. Say it a little faster…..ah…now you’ve got it!
He is a life long West Texan who used to write a weekly poem for my newspaper back several years ago. Maybe he will write few more poems for us here at RealTexasBlog.com
The Odds
I do not purport to be a mathematician,
But I did some calculations you should know.
After “crunching” all the numbers,
I can now mathematically show.
The odds of you winning the Texas lotto,
Are admittedly not too hot.
You see the odds are just about the same,
Whether you buy a ticket or not!

You heard about the Democrat who kept telling his wife
everything was going to be OK because he was praying
that he’d win the lottery. After a month or so she got
concerned and asked “just how many lottery tickets are
you buying anyway”? “None,” he replied, “I’m praying!!”
to which she replied, “Don’t you think you ought to meet
the Lord halfway?” In Proverbs it says, “man can throw
the dice, but the Lord decides how they land.” (NLT).
True!
However, check out the Texas Lottery page and you’ll find the names of hundreds of winners. Some, Big Winners.
