We woke up this morning in the mood to do a little exploring and it was mighty hard to resist that urge. So we put it off until tomorrow. That’s when we will head down some bluebonnet trails for a day trip, then turn around and come back home. I have been assured we will be going on an overnight trip fairly soon also.
The purpose of the road trip tomorrow will be to reconnoiter the best bluebonnet areas. I expect we will end up in the highland lakes area around Llano and Lake Buchanan, then make our way back through a few back roads that hold some promise of good pictures of the beloved State Flower.
Other than this planned day trip, our other trips usually end up shopping in one form or another. Favorite places include anywhere there is a Central Market or a large Whole Foods store. If those are not easily located, then a large newer H.E.B. will do. Other favorite stops include plant nurseries, large greenhouse operations, and places along the road that sell vegetables, peaches, and homemade bird houses and such. I’m also partial to chain saw art, but that’s just me. Did I ever mention the chain saw armadillo I found by Big John’s at Fuzzy’s Corner one time? It graces the entry to my downstairs office/manspace. Very proud of it.
For you hard core in-town shopper types, there is a website that has what they say are 45 of the best stores in Texas. The cities where these shops are located include Austin, Boerne, College Station, Corpus Christie, Dallas/Carrolton, Dallas, El Paso, Fredericksburg, Frisco, Georgetown, Houston, Kerrville, Kingsville, Lubbock, McKinney, San Antonio, Southlake, and Waco. And I’ll bet you have a favorite place of your own in your neck of the woods. If so, we’d like to hear about it.
For the life of me I can’t remember the little hardware/what-not store we stopped in onetime that seemed to have just everything I wanted and nothing I really needed. Like the sign I got there that states, “Women Love Me-Fish Fear Me.” I hung that sign down in my manspace by the Spring Creek and yes it impresses only my friends….not my wife or her friends. It is there with several strands of beads left over from Mardi Gras….just in case I need them. Haven’t needed them….yet.
Those are my kinds of stores and my kinds of shopping. I don’t think I would find anything like that at Sam Moon in Frisco.
Here’s a link to that site with all the shopping places. Have a good time shopping all over Texas on your next road trip whether it’s out in the countryside like me or in your urban part of Real Texas.
