My Real Texas Turtles are not only a favorite of David’s, but they are really a hit on my holiday platters that I give to friends and family for the Christmas season.
I love to make candies and give this special gift to our friends.
Here’s a video on how I make the Real Texas Turtles…
Real Texas Turtles
Ingredients
Pecan halves
1 bag Carmel’s
1 bag Chocolate Coating (for Candy)
Directions
Spread out parchment paper on countertop and spread the pecan halves, curved side up, approximately 2″ apart.
As you add the Carmel and Chocolate you will want enough room between the pecan halves so they do not stick to each other.
Melt Carmel in a glass container in the microwave, 2 minutes at a time on low heat. Using a spoon, drop enough carmel to coat the pecan half.
You don’t have to completely cover the pecan. The different shapes the melted carmel forms makes the Real Texas Turtles unique.
Melt 1 square at a time in a glass container in the microwave, 2 minutes on low heat until melted. Using a spoon, pour enough chocolate to cover the carmel pecan half.
When the chocolate is set, you can take off the parchment paper and store in ziplock bag until you are ready to use.
Keep in cool place, no need to refrigerate.
Keep out of reach of family if you are using on your holiday platters!

Sounds good–I could eat a gallon of turtles
IF not for acid reflux. These are one of
my favorites—must try.
Do most super-markets have
chocolate coating? I’m not familiar with
that!!
Yes all grocery stores carry the chocolate coating, also known as Chocolate bark…comes in regular chocolate and white chocolate. HEB is where I bought.
Just make sure it’s chocolate for making candy…you can’t use regular candy bars, they burn, and you don’t want to use the baking chocolate, not sweet enough.
Enjoy your Real Texas Turtles!
Try almonds instead of pecans. Tasty!
Yes – smart boy! :))New foollwer from somewhere – can't remember where I found your link, sorry!
