There will be lots of end of the year lists coming out right about now. I’ve been reviewing some of those lists and decided to share a link to Time Magazine’s list of their best Photos of 2009.
You will have fun remembering some of the images that tell a story and you will also be reminded of some things you you are not quite so fond of. That’s the way it was for me at least.
One of my favorite photos was of the miraculous landing of the plane in the Hudson River by Capt. Sully Sullinger. The passengers were all out on the wings of the plane as it was floating down the river. The photo was taken by an artist from a nearby building. He first thought it was a drill of some sort. He just started shooting and came up with a fantastic shot.
Be sure and read the descriptive captions at the bottom of the photos as they explain more about the photos.
The collection of photos of 2009 start off with President Obama just moments before he took the oath of office. His expression will mean different things to different viewers. That’s the beauty of a photograph. They are meant to tell a story and be open to interpretation.
As a country editor, I never left my office without a camera over my shoulder. it was just second nature to walk out the door with a camera and even take it to lunch with you. I had a full darkroom and developed my own photos from film to a black and white photograph. I shot literally thousands of photographs and developed them in my darkroom. Now it is just too easy with today’s digital cameras, but photographers now don’t know a whole lot about f-stops, film speed, and proper temperatures of the chemicals.
I like today’s digital world a lot better than back then, but I’m glad to have done it the old way.
There are 48 photos in the collection and my favorite is #8. You’ll just have to leave a comment and tell me your favorite photo of 2009 as presented by Time/CNN.

My favorites were #s 10, 23, 31, 41–in no particular order.
My least favorites were all of the shots of NObama.
Not very happy photos! I did find one that was a happy photo #24. I love whales, so peaceful. 🙂
Number 8, the Miracle on the Hudson was my favorite.
I didn’t like any of the pictures of Obama. Why does he always have his nose pointed up in the air in photos? I’m tired of looking at him.
I liked 41 too, of the soldier waging war in pink boxers!
