Robert Earl Keen is a Native Texan who lives in Kerrville and has a ranch in the Medina area.  He was born in Houston and attended Texas A&M University.  Yep, he’s an Aggie, but he majored in English.  According to the old story, he rented a house in College Station and his neighbor was Lyle Lovett.  Both were unknown at the time, but they did a lot of  ‘front porch music’.  The wrote a song by that name, The Front Porch Song, and they both still play it often. Yes, Lyle Lovett is an Aggie also.

Robert Earl Keen graduated, and moved to Austin where he worked for a newspaper and played in the local clubs and built a loyal following.

Over the next few years, he continued performing and one of the best – true – stories he tells is in an introduction to the song “The Road Goes on Forever’ where his car burned up at Willie Nelson’s 4th of July picnic.  That story is on his No. 2 Live Dinner album.

He’s another lyrics guy, one of my favorites, and he is a heck of a success these days.

As always, the music sounds best on your own CD. Buy one at your favorite music vendor.

The Road Goes on Forever….

Merry Christmas with the Family….

Like Billy Joe Shaver, Robert Earl Keen is another one of my favorites (of whom I’d never heard until introduced to by my
son). Hard to beat Texas musicians, although Bob Wills is from Oklahoma—-but he sang a lot about Texas & beer! Great job, David!! You go guy!!
