Texas music, you just can’t beat it.

Can’t believe this week went by so fast.  We spent the first few days of the week in San Antonio.  I think we just try to pick out the hottest places we can find to spend a few days.  So, we went to a few shows, ate at some fancy places, Ramona shopped some and we came on home.  When we left San Antonio it was 98 degrees.  When we got home, it was 107.  So much for going where it’s hot.  We could have stayed home and done that.

This week Music Video Friday is featuring Jerry Jeff Walker.  He’s not a native Texan, but he’s one that got here as fast as he could and this is where he made a name for himself.

The first song here is Up Against The Wall Redneck Mother.  It was written by Ray Wylie Hubbard and made famous by Jerry Jeff.   Here is Jerry Jeff singing the song on the Texas Connection which he later went on to host for quite some time.

Here is Ray Wylie Hubbard explaining how the song ‘Redneck Mother’ came to be.

Jerry Jeff sings a version of LA Freeway written by Guy Clark, my favorite songwriter. I included this to give a visual reference of Jerry Jeff during this period in his life. To say he drank a little is an understatement. He drank a lot. He’s down to skin and bones here. Fortunately for him and us, he quit drinking, saved his own life, and continues to entertain us all.

Another favorite…Desperadoes Waitin’ for a Train.

When was the last time you saw Dandy Don…and a very young Jerry Jeff…

And here is one of his ‘signature’ songs
