Johnny Bush is true Texas

Johnny Bush is old time country music.  His songs are very danceable, tell a story, and have their share of hard times stories. In reading some of the comments under the video, one reader commented that only West Texas girls can dance to this music anymore…..might be true.

Most of you are probably most familiar with his song, Whiskey River, that now seems to be Willie’s signature song along with his On The Road Again. Here are a few versions of Johnny Bush favorites.

We’re not the only Johnny Bush fans. Here’s what King George said, “I love Johnny Bush. He is classic Texas honky-tonk, one of our state’s treasures. Every honky-tonker out there has tried to sing like him, myself included. Thanks, Johnny, for being a true Texas original, and for your friendship.”– George Strait

When I was living in Big Lake I would sometimes listen to an
AM station in San Angelo that played Johnny Bush-type
music. One DJ in particular on that station was Jim Newton..
called his show “Newton’s a shootin”….He was VERY funny & famous for his one-liners. He moved from the station in Angelo to K-YAL in McKinney, and DJ-ed with my cousin,
Cameron Munger, on that station. I got to meet him, and he
was just as funny off the air!! Thanks for the memories!!
