Cow Parade moves into Austin
Have you “herd”?
71 beautiful bovine have made their way to Austin and they aren’t planning on moooo-ving anytime soon! CowParade Austin is here and it has brought many colorful cows to the Capitol city to celebrate local art and benefit charitable organizations.
In late July 47 beautifully decorated cows arrived in Austin. The cows are now on display at popular spots including Frost Bank Tower, City Hall, the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge, The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, and Whole Foods on Lamar. New cows are arriving every few weeks and nearly 100 are expected to be on display by October.
CowParade Austin is part of an international public art movement that got its start in Chicago in 1999. To date, nearly 75 cities in 30 different countries have hosted CowParade events. Currently, CowParade events are also being held in Santa Catarina and Rio de Janero, Brazil.
Each year, artists from all walks of life are encouraged to submit their designs for upcoming CowParade events. Over 5,000 amateur and professional artists, including fashion designers Kate Spade and Vivienne Westwood, and musicians Radiohead and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones, have participated.
More than 55 individual Austin artists participated in CowParade Austin. Teams from Austin companies Bazaarvoice, HomeAway, and Austin Harmony Project, Inc. also submitted designs. Each of their designs was selected by a local sponsor organization and will be auctioned off at an Oct. 30 gala at the Driskill Hotel. Proceeds will benefit Superhero Kids Fund and Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, two Austin organizations benefiting children.
If you have not had a chance to check out CowParade Austin, you have until Oct. 16 to do so. Click here for a complete map of the cow parade.

What happens to the cows on the parade? Are they painted to make them colorful? Are the cows donned in costumes? 😀 This looks fun. I hope the cows don’t go amok and the parade becomes a running with the bulls like in Spain. lol!
