Bella Vista Olive Ranch
Most of you know we like nearly everything ‘Texas’ and last year we had a very good visit with Jack Dougherty, owner and developer at Bella Vista. He brought his olive expertise with him to the Wimberley area and now he is offering a Texas Blend of olive oil. Look closely at the label…it says Texas Blend right on the bottle.
More on that Texas Blend later…
When you visit Bella Vista Ranch Jack will first give a very informative lecture on the history of olives in a historical basis and then focus in more on his operation at Bella Vista Ranch…..and yes, you are surrounded by Olive trees and on a working and very productive Olive orchard. I was very surprised and delighted to be enlightened on the olive industry, olives through history, and olives at Bella Vista. Jack has gone through a lot of trials and tribulations in developing Bella Vista Ranch to produce Olives as a crop and Bella Vista Ranch as a destination.
Go here for more information and you will also find directions.
The Texas Blend of extra virgin olive oil is described on the website as: “It is very green, fresh smelling and has a nice peppery finish – a little more grassy than this year’s Estate bottled. We currently have available: 500 ml bottles (the larger bottles) for sale, $27.95 each. Available to purchase on website in tasting room OR by calling us at (512) 847-6514. As always, 12% discount on case (12 bottle) orders.
He adds: “The olive trees have already flowered and set fruit. The rest of our seasonal gardens are in full swing and the grass in the pastures is (still) green. We could use a little more rain of course, but not on the day that YOU are visiting!”
Fine olive oils are a lot like fine wines and they have some very good blends available at Bella Vista.
Can you taste the various olive oils and wines? You bet. And if you are a gardener, ask Jack about his personal garden. I bet it’s already full of good stuff.
Take time to go visit this part of Real Texas, it will be worth your while.
I’m David out in Real Texas
