Easter in Real Texas
I have a lot to be grateful for. We have a lot to be grateful for. In my ‘about me’ section of Real Texas Blog, I explain that I wasn’t all that grateful for everything in my life in my former life. I simply worked all the time. These days, I am grateful for a lot and that seems to have made all the difference.
Easter is the central religious time/event in the Christian religion. Out here in Real Texas, we are primarily Christians. However, we are a probably a little different out here in Real Texas. Especially in our Cowboy churches, we extend a hearty welcome even to folks like me as well as the most hard bitten cowboy sinners ever. As my friend Pastor Kevin Weatherby explained, “— Nobody hesitates to welcome in the biggest, meanest, filthiest, beer drinkin’-est, been divorced four timen-est, momma that’s nevr’ been married-est, and un-shavenest sinners that can be found.”
Well, that’s just the way we are out here. And I’m grateful for all that too.
Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. People all over the world celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday, two days after Good Friday and three days after Maundy Thursday. Now officially Easter lasts for the fifty days until Pentecost. Easter also marks the end of Lent, a season of fasting, prayer, and penance. Today is Good Friday 2011 before Easter. Watch and listen carefully to both these videos selected specially for you this Good Friday.
