If 10% is good enough for Jesus

A friend of mine sent me a song that explains a lot about what is going on today.  The singer is Ray Stevens.  I used to be be able to sing every word of some of his songs including “You can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd”.  But the song I have for you today is much more serious.  Click here for a good listen. Let me know what you think about it.

There comes a time when all good men must come to the aid of their country.  The country I am refering to must be The Republic of Texas.

A small clarification…Roger Miller was the artist who sang “You Can’t Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd” as well as “Dang Me”, “Chug-a-Lug”, “England Swings”, “Kansas City Star”, “Husbands and Wives”, “Engine, Engine Number Nine”, “King of the Road”, etc. etc.

Ray Stevens on the other hand is the artist who sings this song you uploaded about income taxes but he’s more famous for singing “Ahab the Arab”, “The Streak”, “Everything Is Beautiful”, “Misty”, “Shriner’s Convention”, “It’s Me Again, Margaret”, “Gitarzan”, “Mississippi Squirrel Revival”, etc. etc.

I was doing a blog search of Ray Stevens, I’m a huge fan of his, as to how I came across your blog page.

Dang Me!! I wanted to be the 1st to correct you on who sang
“You can’t rollerskate….” Roger Miller was another great OKIE.
He had his own TV show the first (or 2nd) year I taught school at
Reagan Co. High in Big Lake, TX. I LOVED that show, Miller was
multi-talented as is Ray Stevens, & they do have much in common.
This is a great song with lots of truth!!
p.s Guess it makes us feel superior, or at least more knowledgeable,
to correct others….I confess, I NEED correcting more than most!!

Guess you’re tired of being told that Ray Stevens didn’t do “You can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd’ by now. Makes no difference, love both of the singers and am especially fond of Ray. And believe me I agree with him on the 10% thing.

Thanks to Anne, DJTex, Warthog, Ron Cameron, and ACountryFan.
Dang Me! Dang Me! They oughta take a rope and hang me…….Thanks for the update on who sang what. I guess I spent a little too much time sitting out on my dock on the Spring Creek yesterday right before I posted that. BTW, thanks to DJTex for sending it tome in the first place even though I didn’t get Miller right. ACountryFan’s recollection of song titles set me to hummin’ some great songs this morning. Mentally singing Ahab, the Arab turned a negative into a positive. I love those singers/songwriters and Warthog, I also think Tom T. Hall’s Watermelon Wine is a classic….thanks to all.

Hey David, since no one has mentioned it I just have to tell you that it was Roger Miller.

In my opinion, Tom T. Hall was better than Stevens or Miller for those types of songs. “Old Dogs and Children and Watermelon Wine” was my favorite but he had many many more.

Amen to the 10% and coming to the aid of our country —-
The Republic of Texas rides again. God Bless Texas!!!!!!!!
P.S. It’s ok David, I didn’t know the difference as to who sang what, but I sure did some humming and singing myself when I read the list.

You Can’t rollerskate in a buffalo herd was Roger Miller not Ray Stephens.

Jesus threw the money lenders out of the temple, as the bible says. I like to wonder what he would do to congress right about now.
