David Werst captures the real essence of Texas life better than anybody I know and he does it with humor and insight. I look forward to what RealTexasBlog.com will bring in the future. And for those of you not from Texas, David just wants you to know that God still loves you! Hang in there.

Blog, Schmog! What is a blog anyway? Is it just another way of saying “I’m lonely, please write me.”?
Scariest movie was “The Exorcist”. Next scariest was “Trip to Sophomore Hill”.
Hope all is well.

I’m just a ole West Texas boy, born here, grew up here, worked on the farm as a boy and know what the inside of a cotton gin looks like, but I spent over 40 years in the oil patch. You write like the people I have been around all my life. Keep the stories coming. (Yep – Harild is spelled this way)

Haven’t we got rid of David Werst YET???

I guess he’s like Death and Taxes. Giving up the paper and moving away from Big Lake did not alter such a “great constant”. So now, he blogs. (I hate that word. Call it “bulletin board”, “forum”… anything but “blog”.)

Is this comment “pithy” enough for you, David?

Hi – David, Perhaps you’ll remember who I am.
Terry was nice enough to share your site with me. Nice to see you are still writing and keeping us informed. I’ve wondered many times if you still were writing for the “Wildcat” and Terry informed me you had retired to Sherwood & were now “blogging”. Nice to see your face.

David,

I’m not sure if you remember me or not. Phil is my “big” brother. Anyway, great web site. I got this from Tommy Hayes. I appreciate your effort and information. I’m passing this on to others including our local news man Lynn Brisendine. Lynn speaks highly of you. Thanks.

Hey David,
Just got back from a principal’s retreat held in Fredericksburg. Since my dauber has been in the dirt over the TAKS scores, I convinced Dean to accompany me out to Luchenbach to listen to some good ol’ Texas pickin and grinnin and a possible Shiner Bach or two or three……Now here is where this story is really going. I am sure that you are familiar with the fowl that have free reign on the grounds. It is getting about dusk and I comment to Mrs. Byrd that it wouldn’t be long until the roosters headed to the trees and would begin calling their hens for a visit. Mrs. Byrd looked at me like I had lost my mind. Basically, she says, “Quit bullsh*****me!”.
Now she has told me that she was born and raised in Texas since before we were married. However, after this reaction I wasn’t to sure that she wasn’t from north of the Red River. I demanded to see her birth certificate when we got back to Big Lake. Well, it does say Wichita Falls, but heck you know as well as I do that is almost being an Okie. Anyways, she promised she wouldn’t act this way again. I hope not!!!!! I would hate to trade her off. Tell Ramona “hey” and “best to you and yours.”

Hello David,
I heard you had retired to Sherwood, but wasn’t sure that was true! Both my parents were from Sherwood and I spent a lot of time there growing up. Fishing in Spring Creek and chasing armadillos up and down the river was a lot of fun! You truly live in paradise! I just could never figure out how to make a living there. Glad you did.
I love reading your “Real Texas Blog”! Brings back a lot of memories and is very entertaining. Seems like a lot of our old friends found it before I did. Terry Williams turned me on to it.
Tell Ramona that Candy and I said hello. Enjoyed her videos!
I am going to pass this site on to my brothers, especially Jimmy who went to California years ago and never came back to Texas. He needs to see what he is missing.
Behave yourself and Keep up the good work!
