From Dairy Queen to Starbucks
I have often wondered why folks would up and leave their hometowns after living in one place for so long. Some have kids they need to be closer to and some have career changes which force a move. Jim Bob Solsbery moved from RealTexas to a suburb of Houston after he retired from an illustrious career with the Farm Service Agency. After living a rural lifestyle out in RealTexas most of his life, he ended up in the Houston area so his long suffering wife Jan can get a few more years on her teacher retirement. She teaches in the Waller ISD headed up by one of the best superintendents in Texas, Richard McReavy.
The move has been hard in some ways but it has opened up new and exciting opportunities in other ways. They have had to make some real adjustments to their lifestyle. Especially Jim Bob. We went to visit them a few months back and almost never found their house. The directions to his old home used to be simple. Go to the Dairy Queen, turn right at the light. Go to 9th and turn left and his house is down the road from there. Not true anymore. You have to go winding through manicured subdivisions where the houses look the same to me, turn left, turn right, get out and run around the car twice, drive down a back alley, and your there!
After being a coffee drinker in the local RealTexas Dairy Queen all his life, Jim Bob had some culture shock which he speaks about. He is a professional speaker and stays booked up months in advance. He has a great story to tell and if you want to book Jim Bob as the keynote speaker at your state or local school, chamber, business organization event, or state convention, contact us here at RealTexasblog.com and we’ll get you in touch. You can also contact Jim Bob direct at: JimBobSpeaker@gmail.com and visit his website at www.laughyourwayout.com
