Jose Cuervo, you are a friend of mine
Who among you readers of Real Texas Blog do not know that tune? And I’ll bet most of you can easily sing along to the music. That is exactly what we did last Saturday night on date night.
We have been enjoying a lot of Real Texas Music lately. Some of it has been Texas Blues, Country, folk music, and just good old favorites from several genres.
Saturday night we attended a T. Gozney Thornton event at a place called Paula Sue’s. He had several members of his own band there including Joe Dianda on bass guitar, Manuel Burciaga playing bongos and tambourine, and Manuel Cortez on the piano. It was a pretty potent combination and the crowd loved it all. T. Gozney played plenty of old favorites like his Grammy nominated “Es Tu Vida” and a crowd favorite called “Strawberry Stallion“. He even threw in a couple of his original compositions including Austin Without You, Honky Tonk Cowboy, and Cox #2, a song he wrote in the Mustang Bar in Big Lake, Texas.
A guest artist showed up during his set and T. Gozney invited her to play. Her name…..San Angelo resident Cynthia Jordan. She is a heck of an accomplished musician and you already know her music. But it is her music that she is using to try to make the world a little better place. She said, “I believe music is the solution to all of the problems of mankind.”
Cynthia Jordan wrote Jose Cuervo in 1983 and saw the power of music first hand. The song immediately shifted into high gear and became a honky tonk anthem. It hit #1 on the charts sung by Shelly West who also had a #1 hit in 1981 with Your the Reason God Made Oklahoma with David Frizell. In addition, Billboard Magazine named Jose Cuervo the #1 country song of the year 1983 and earned her a Grammy nomination.
So, Cynthia knows the power of music. She said it was the first song she ever wrote. But it would not be her last. She has changed genres since back in 1983.
In 1997 Cynthia changed her genre to beautiful, piano compositions under the name of Cynthia Jordan. Her compositions have had well over 5 million downloads. With the release of her music, Cynthia began receiving letters from all over the world of how people were using it in so many beneficial ways. Sleeping, healing, better focus, comfort in the grieving process and even losing weight were some of the testimonials she received.

Cynthia began doing research on the power of music and was excited to find all kinds of benefits music can bring. Today you can hear Cynthia’s music on Soundscapes (cable music station) as well as wellness and rehab centers throughout the country. Cynthia currently resides in San Angelo, Texas. Her program “Ahhh Radio” airs every evening from 9 to 11 on KCSA, 95.7 “We play therapeutic music with the intention of helping people relax, help children wind down and go to sleep, and students retain more of what they read as well as allowing thoughts to flow when writing papers.
What a journey. If you would like to add a little zest to your life, get out and enjoy live music by Real Texas artists in your part of Texas. Singer/songwriters like T. Gozney Thornton and Cynthia Jordan are worth spending a little time with.

Looking good, David!
Wow. What a nice surprise. I am humbly aprreciative. Thanks so much.
San Angelo is very fortunate to have Cynthia/Cindy Jordan. Between you and me and the gatepost, we have a host of talented musicians…just try the Chicken Farm on First Saturday, Sealy Flats on a Tuesday, Beer, Blues and BBQ 3rd Sunday or anywhere T Gozney and the Old Hat Band is playing. Hey, we’re lil’ Austin without all the weirdos and traffic!
Merry Christmas Cindy! My old business partner John O’shaunessy and I used to be regulars at the Blue Moon Saloon in the winter of ’83-84 when we were working out there.
Enjoyed listing to your music. When I got back to Iowa I turned on the radio and heard Shelly West’s version of your song. Sorry but after hearing you sing your song I thought she destroyed it. But whatever works…………
