Roger Moore is more than a Texas cartoonist. He’s a genuine Texas historian who happens to be talented enough to communicate through his art.
Roger also has a calendar he makes available to the public which does not start on January 1 of every year. His Texas Calendar starts on March of every year because he is a big proponent of Texas Independence Day which is March 2. So, every calendar he sells starts on March and goes to February of the next year.
Yep, It’s a Texas thang.
I have used his calendars for years and have been friends with Roger for many years since I first met him at a Texas Press Association meeting somewhere. You need to get your own calendar and order some for you friends also. Especially if they live in some foreign state.
You can order calendars from Roger by sending him $8 for every one you want and mailing the request to Roger Moore: P.O. Box 155, Merkel, Texas 79536.
He throws in a Texas history lesson each month along with his witty cartoons. For instance, in the April Calendar
Roger points out that on April 23, 1936, Roy Orbison was born in Vernon. Texas. By age 6 he had learned to play the guitar.
Now every Real Texan needs that sort of information. And on April 8, 1968, Padre Island National Seashore was dedicated by Ladybird Johnson. And the fact that Fort Davis is the highest town in Texas at 5,050 feet. Or that in 1977 the Rio Grande was officially established as the International border. Heck, I thought all that was settled in 1836.
Here is a sample of his art and I’ll be publishing his stuff on a regular basis as I get it in. It’s always entertaining.
Be sure and order your Texas History Calendar and some for your friends…..
