I’d like to bring your attention to a website named Campfire Cowboy Ministries. It features posts from Cowboy Church Preacher Kevin Weatherby and his postings are both inspirational and entertaining. For someone like me with a limited attention span, he gets my attention with nearly every devotional he posts.
It was one of his latest posts that I enjoyed so much I had to make mention of it here. It is titled 10 Sure Signs You Might Be In A Cowboy Church. Cowboy Churches are becoming increasingly popular out here in Real Texas…..and probably in other areas of the world…..meaning somewhere other than Texas.
I’m not a cowboy, but I have masqueraded as a Cowboy in my early days. Actually, I masqueraded as an undocumented non-Ingles speaking laborer when we had to work several thousand sheep and a hundred head of cattle. I was a mixture of blood, guts, dirt, and grit all for $7 a day…and it was a pretty long and hot summer that year.
Preacher Weatherby states there is a strange new place Cowboys are showing up–in church! He says, “The Cowboy is finding a place he can worship without worryin’ about gettin’ the carpet dirty or leaving his best friend in the truck.” You can guess who or what the ‘best friend’ is.
I suspect I kinda like that. That’s a place even someone like me would fit it.
The Cowboy Preacher writes some pretty good stuff on a regular basis and his 10 Sure Signs You Might Be In A Cowboy Church is just about as good as it gets. Number 4 of the ten signs includes the fact that there are dogs and horses on the prayer list.
He ends this posting like this: Cowboy Church isn’t for everyone. It’s for those of us who love the smell of brandin’ calves and would jump in front of a bear to save that same calf. We’re definitely not tryin’ to make people leave the pews and head for the hay bales, but if you like to watch a campfire burnin’ low, love the sight of a horse grazin’ at sundown, or know the day the buzzards came back, then Cowboy Church might be for you.
Go ahead and subscribe to his blog. You’ll enjoy it for sure.

Amen… My father would have fit right in…. He’s probably there in spirit…
The one thing I have NEVER seen in Cowboy Church is a bobcat. We’ll have to try it someday when you come help me on the ranch. Wages are up to $7.13 a day now.
It doesn’t get any more Real Texas than Cowboy Church, hard work, low pay, and great friends!!
