Indeed, we are doubly blessed to be Texans. Being an
American is GREAT---but, if you want the best icing on
the top you just gotta live in Texas. I've lived in Dallas,
McKinney, Richardson, Decatur/Boyd, Big Lake, Amarillo & Van Alstyne, & I am here to tell you It's ALL good. I just
can't imagine living in New Jersey, Vermont, etc. I also went
to SFA Univ. in Nacodoches (did I spell that right--& was
it not the 1st State Capitol??). Even better had we
kept all the "Tejas territory" Mexico had and remained an
independent Republic. The stupid Yankees would have
probably sent us foreign aid although we wouldn't need it.
Seems we've always kept our financial house in better order
than the rest of the nation!!

Don't know any proverbs, David, but I'm "fixin to" tell you that the best place to celebrate Texas Independence day is at Washington-on-the-Brazos which is just about 20 miles from Brenham where I grew up. They even celebrate on the 2nd like they are supposed to. You can read about the celebration in the Brenham Banner Press.
