The way many Real Texans see it, in regard to the extreme power grab going on behind closed doors in Washington, we have three choices. We can submit, secede, or nullify. I have heard all three courses of action mentioned, plus a few more.
As of this writing, the promises of open debate have been totally abandoned. The
people have been shut out of the political process and even with the media screaming bloody murder about it, the administration in power is ignoring their own past and repeated promises to televise proceedings…..not just the vote. The final product may well be worse than we first feared. Whatever it is, we the people do not know.
Those who are crafting the laws have exempted themselves, and subjected the people to fines and imprisonment for non-compliance. Those who do so should be voted out of office regardless of their party affiliation or seniority.
So, how does a disgruntled and fed-up public resist? How should we respond without impairing the republic. I mentioned the three choices above. There may be more, such as a repeal of the law that no one has seen and that no one has read. Or a constitutional amendment.
It is difficult for me to understand how a representative of the people can cast a vote on such a weighty subject as Health Care without even having read the bill.
There is a group of Texans who will meet at the State Capitol January 16 on the south steps at 2:00 p.m. to bring the idea of nullification to our state officials. They are calling the assembly a “nullification rally.”
These folks are not ‘nuthatches’, smelly, idiotic, or uninformed. They are, by and large, very well informed on constitutional issues, especially the 10th amendment.
So now you know. If you are interested, you can attend the rally on January 16, 2010. Here is some additional information on the sponsoring organization, NotInTexas.org
For the record. I am FOR health care reform. But not the type that is crafted behind closed doors, that criminalize the young and the poor, and is so intrusive in our personal medical and financial records. Stop it all and start over. Keep the promise of open debate. If there is nothing to hide, why hide behind closed doors? And do not insult us further by exempting members of the House and Senate.
The 4th, 9th,and 10th amendments to the constitution are real. They do exist in a written document, and it too is apparently unread and ignored. I fully expect a constitutional challenge on the issue of whether the government has the ability to force us to purchase something. If they can force us to purchase their version of healthcare, can they force us to purchase a gym membership? Can they force us to attend classes on nutrition, dieting, or yoga?
The states have rights and this whole process will be challenged or nullified by the individual states.

Texans can take a big step toward restoring Constitutional government by electing Debra Medina governor. Though not a polished politician like Ricky-boy and Kay Bailey, she did good in the debate last night.
She proved herself not only to be more conservative than
the other two, but–I think–more mature!! She often
referred to US Constitution & how it was meant to protect life, liberty & property (i.e. pursuit of happiness). Get on the bandwagon; people are fed-up with the status-quo,
she can win!!
Thanks David! Excellently written and explained. I have been a fan of Kay Bailey Hutchinson for several years, but I’ve got to tell ya, I’m not too impressed with her handling and responds (or lack of) to this issue. Hope Austin has a good turnout this weekend…..
And thank you Liz, for your heads up on this issue.
Hope it is OK to “double-dip” on these comments. Debra Medina was the 13th most searched item on Google on
1/15/10 the day after PBS debate. According to Ft. Worth
Star-Telegram, KDFW & CBS11 70-75% polled, thought
she won debate. Don’t let the media convince us that she
“just can’t win.” Huckabee could be President today IF
people hadn’t listened to them. There IS a political storm
brewing like none in modern times. People are scared of Big Brother and tired of same-o same-o politics as usual!
If any of your readers live in the 25th district, that is Lloyd Doggett for the uninformed. Check out this website. Dr. Donna is running as a republican, and is getting no help from the Republican Party due to the “waste of money” involved in trying to unseat Doggett. Dr. Donna needs either a bunch of money, or a huge turn out in the primaries, to make the Republican Party look her way. Lets make it happen Texas!!!
