Democrats chide Perry over Texas secession

RealTexasBlog is only semi-political because political opinions are like…..ears.  That’s the nice version.   Nearly everybody has some.  Opinions that is.

I like to keep it pretty light here, but when someone who supposedly represents Texans is so vocal in their support of Washington politics, it drives me crazy.  My friend Rora alerted me to the following story.

Recent allegations of Texas Governor Rick Perry’s  ‘reckless talk’  voiced by some Texas democrats puzzle me.

Texas Governor Rick Perry was commenting on the Tax Tea Parties held April 15 rick_perry_photo_portrait2c_august_282c_2004and someone in the crowd yelled out that we should secede.  Perry responded that we had a great country, but if Washington didn’t start listening better, it might be a good idea to consider.  As usual, they just don’t understand the frustrations a lot of us have.

A recent poll tells us that 31% of Texans believe they have the right to secede if they want to, but 75% opt to stay in the USA….for now.

If it were put to a vote right now, 18% would immediately vote for secession and 7% are not sure.  Those figures come from a Rasmussen poll.

In response to Mr. Dunnam, I’m not some fringe nutcase, Mr. Dunnam.  You are.  My suggestion to you is to get on I-35  north and hit the road and get as close to Washington, D.C. as you possibly can.  How you got elected by the good citizens of the Waco area is baffling.  This issue has nothing to do with the civil war and racism.  What a jerk.

We’ve done it before and we could get along even better today as I wrote in a post  just after the election called Screw You Blue States.

I consider myself an independent to the core. I try my best not to think about what is happening in Washington or to watch much TV. It’s disheartening and depressing to see what is happening to our country.
Here’s a few other opinions from the Austin area:

Perry also recently supported HCR 50 which re-asserted states rights.  Here are some of Perry’s remarks about that issue, ” I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state.”  Read more about that issue here.

But I digress.  The remarks by the Texas legislators who are democrats  denouncing outright the idea of secession do not speak for me…..or nearly anyone I know, or even any other democrats I know.  They would be appalled at Dunnam’s grandstanding remarks.  Most of us out here are equally concerned about the direction the country is going.

I have met the Governor a few times and like him.  I do not know if Kay Bailey Hutchison will run, but it appears she will do so.  I do not support either one at this time, but I do like what Perry says, no matter who is listening.

Would I feel more comfortable in the Republic of Texas.  Yes.

Do I seen it happening any time soon.  No dern it.

I know, after writing something like this, democrats will probably put me in the same class as returning American soldiers….a potential threat and a group to be watched.

Pretty good company if you ask me.

None of the 50 States will ever secede…its citizens would lose
their Social Security benefits, etc. We are just in too deep!! We
will sink with the rest of the ship IF some serious changes are
not made soon. Our nation is seriously divided politically,
economically, and morally (cultural war). Too many now look to
Big Brother for security instead of to God—and there is NO
security in Big Brother! A true confederacy would be a superior
type of government where Sovereign States agree to have a
common defense, currency, weights & measures and perhaps
hiway & postal system, but RESERVE to themselves such things
as education & welfare (as our Founding Fathers intended with
our Bill of Rights–especially 9th & 10th Amendments). Bottom
line is NO nation can long survive without a strong moral fiber!

Never say never!! People are fed up and are being pushed too far by the left. I’ll be damned if I’m going to let my hard-earned money go to some fat lazy person who doesn’t want to work. Those who really cannot work, that’s a different story. We are overtaxed and our money is going towards things that we have no say in. In 2010, we need to vote these worthless POS’s out of the Congress and Senate…then O won’t have his buddies to agree with everything he says and the “weights and measures” system will be back.

Just my opinion, though, which I still have the right to express…for now.

well, in my end of Texas, in the Bryan Eagle, they have a poll, 57.84% say secede, and 42.16% say no.
I happen to know that Perry met with The Republic Of Texas a few weeks ago. Maybe they made some inroads.

I’ll pitch in to buy Dunnam’s gas for his trip north. Hell, we probably can get enough collected to get him all the way to Canada, or at least D.C. He obviously wants to fight the War of Northern Aggression again. He is a moron and hopefully the good people of Waco can help him along his merry way when he loses his next election.

It is about time that people start seriously talking about Texas becoming an independent Republic once again. I started talking about it back in the 80′s when I was still in Amarillo. As a matter of fact I had a bar in downtown Amarillo which I proudly named The Republic of Texas. When we opened I had a friend of mine come over with a cannon and we loaded it up with an extra charge of powder and tamped it in with an empty beer can [Coors, of course -- we didn't want destroy any good beer cans]. We set it off in the street in front of the bar at high noon. Luckily it didn’t blow out any windows, but every pigeon in Amarillo took flight. We quickly loaded the cannon on a trailer and the owner hauled it, as we anticipated that the cops would soon be there. I picked up all of the little pieces of the Coors beer can [which I still have] so that there would not be any evidence. When the police arrived we all had no idea what they were talking about; and a good time was had by all. [By the way the statute of limitations has run on that little episode]. But, I digress [as usual .....].

Ron, I agree with you 100% about many Americans turning their backs on God and our need to re-establish a strong moral fiber. I disagree with you when you say “we are in too deep”. Back in the 80′s when I started on this little cause, I had some economic statistics that stated Texas, as an independent Republic, would be the 8th richest nation in the world. Let that sink in for a while. We produce and supply the rest of the U.S. with most of its natural gas. I understand that Texans pay more for the natural gas that we use, than the yankees pay for Texas’ natural gas. Guess what. As a Republic we can still supply the yankees with our natural gas at a true market price. This fact led to the old adage: “Let the SOB’s freeze to death in the dark.” Sam Houston said it best: “Texas can get along without the United States, but the United States can not get along without Texas.” I suspect that that statement is still valid.

Rick Perry: Thank you sir for having a pair. I have since read that his comments were a “political ploy”. I suspect there may some bit of truth to that — and, if so, it was damned sure a good one. But, the fact that he had the courage to utter it at all, makes him my hero of the day [maybe the month] and I will vote for him for whatever office he wants. If it happens to be as President of The Republic of Texas, so be it. Sorry Chuck. You were my hero last month.

The point is people are really starting to seriously talk about the Republic of Texas through the Tax Day Protests, Gov. Perry’s pronouncements, RealTexasBlog, emails of every kind and from all walks of life, etc., etc., etc. Life is beginning to get good again. So, Dave, don’t give up on the idea of it happening pretty soon.

God Bless the Republic of Texas!!

Ron, about those SS benefits, you can live anywhere in the world and still collect your benefits.
I believe you would still be a United States Citizen, since you were born in the USA, just living in Texas.
I don’t know how it would work for people who haven’t yet begun to collect benefits, that’s something that would have to be worked out, there’s alway more than one way to skin a cat, there’s a lot of things that would have to be worked out.

From what I read yesterday, your Governor submitted paperwork for Texas to secede.

Now, here’s my delima.

If the state I live in right now, Georgia, doesn’t do the same, then I want to move to Texas.

I was born in Savannah but, raised north of “The Mason Dixon Line” in a state that’s a Blue state. That’s why I’m back in my birth state.

When I was playing Country Music, includes Southern Boggie, Swing, etc., one of the best bands I was in was from Dayton, Ohio. Why was it one of the best? Because, their name was “LONESTAR”. That was before the national pretty boy band came on the scene a few years back. Our band was playing on the road back in the early `80′s. So, we’ve got dibs on the name as far as I’m concerned. LOL! Of course, that’s unless you guys already have a band called that…..(BSEG).

Dave, Rusty, Sammie, and any other Texan, I ask, since I was born in Georgia, could I legally become a resident of…….The Republic Of Texas?

Sounds like a great idea to me. Why would I want to move there you ask?

In the next round of BRAC, my place of employment will most likely become extinct. So, since I’m a tubbleweed anyway, where else would I want to live? TEXAS! Been through there many times and you’re right. Your state is HUGE! Took me three days to get across it….LOL!

Listen y’all. I wish you the best. Our country is in the hands of some sick, commie individuals from California to Illinois straight on through to D.C.. Oh, and I can’t forget Mass. either. Isn’t that where Teddy boy left that young girl to drown that he was lovers with? Hum, now that’s someone I want making decissions for my country.

Am I upset at the way it’s going in our country? Humm……let me say it this way. Not yes but, HELL yes.

God Bless America, your and my Ancestors, Our Troops and most of all, The NRA.

Nuff said……for now.

I hope it’s true too but, as you’ll see, it is. The paperwork was file last night at 11:47 pm

Keep me up to date on how it’s going with you guys over there. I’ve already sent our state reps a request for us to secede. That was a month or so ago.

Good luck y’all.

Okay Sammie.

Try it this way.

Go to this link and then in the middle of the page it has a Search Legislation area towards the top.

Type this in exactly as it is here or just copy it from here and paste it:

The Bill Number is: HCR50

http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/

If you get another error my friend, then your statr governmnet has changed it’s address. Could it have anything to do with seceding? I doubt it.

Good luck on finding out. I know you guys out there are excited if it happens.

Sorry for the misinformation Sammie and all of you other Texans.

HCR No. 50 has been reported favorably out of the State Affairs Committee with no Amendments. Next step is for it to be brought up on the floor of the Texas Senate for a vote. Call your Senator and tell him [or her] to “Get ‘er Done”!!!!
