As Johnny Cash put it on the liner notes to his Unchained album.   “’I love songs about horses, railroads, land, judgment day, family, hard times, whiskey, courtship, marriage, adultery, separation, murder, war, prison, rambling, damnation, home, salvation, death, pride, humor, piety, rebellion, patriotism, larceny, determination, tragedy, rowdiness, heartbreak, and love. And Mother. And God.

Those are pretty good subjects in the Texas Music category as far as many of us are concerned.  Another country singer included mother, trains, prison, and pickup trucks.

Old time singers included cattle, cotton, mules, horses, and more.  There’s lots of subjects for a country music song, and each of us has our favorites.  What’s yours?
