Hello Texas and the world!

Just getting started blogging and the subject is what I know best….Texas and all things Texan.  We’ll have a focus on a few things here in the RealTexasBlog but the main focus is Texas.  Categories I’m considering include Texas Humor, Texas Music, Texas History, Texas Pets, and Texas Proverbs.

Let me give you a short version rundown on those categories and see if we can settle in on them a little more.

Texas Humor:  Plenty to go around with that one.  The Real Texas folks I know are proud of their state with a capital P, but they are still able to poke a little humor at themselves some.  We’ll add in a sprinklin’ of Texas brags just because we can’t help ourselves, but we’ll try to keep that to a minimum.  We’re not trying to make all those lesser states feel bad, it’s just that we have a tendency to be vocal about our pride in our state.

Texas Music:  Yep, another category where there is plenty of material to go around.  I passed by a honky tonk today and painted on the outside in white letters, nothing fancy mind you, were the words, “Bob Wills is still the king.”  Yes he is and even Willie might agree with that one.  But we’ll get a little deeper into it than that.  When we get technologically advanced out here in the country, we’ll have a podcast with a man that actually knew and played some with Bob Wills and his band.  The man’s name is H.F. Ritchie and yes, he can damn sure play RealTexas music.  So, Texas music will also get the full RealTexas treatment.

Texas History:  I taught Texas History to Texas 7th graders for 12 years and enjoyed every minute of it.  The kids that went through my class turned out to be Texas patriots and I’ll tell you what it was like to be in my class.  Along the way, we’ll all learn what we need to know to be RealTexas in our attitudes and our actions.

Texas Pets:  Some Texas pets are just different from your run of the mill cats and dogs found in the city.  For instance, we have your regular cat and dog, but we also have chickens of several different flavors, ducks, guineas, peacocks, and a bobcat named Bobby.  We’ll feature all of them at one time or another so you can get to know them.  A good friend has a pet Mountain Lion or Couger that lives in her house, but that takes a lot of dedication to the animal to do that.  Not pets, but visitors to our place on a regular basis includes raccoons, squirrels, and armadillos.  We’ll talk about ‘em all at one time or another.  We’ll also call in the expert Aggies sometimes to tell you how to care of your pets also.  We will eventually master the ability to post pictures and we’ll want you to send us pictures of your RealTexas pets.

Texas Proverbs: should possibly to into the Texas Humor category, but let’s try them out first in a category all their own.  You’ve heard some of them like “Don’t squat with your spurs on” and others, but we’ll try to come up with some that you can think about and live by.  Lot’s of RealTexas folks like to have their own favorite saying or ‘proverb’ and if you will share them with us, we’ll share them with you here as we begin this study of what it is to be a Real Texas person, place, thing, animal, or attitude….no matter where you live.

Bred a Texan, born a Texan, lived a Texan, and will die a Texan. Nothing anywhere can compare to this great state. We’ve got it all: Beaches, inland lakes, forests, big trees, mountains, canyons, deserts, big cities, small country towns, high class hotels, low class motels, fancy restaurants, high society cuisine, tiny taverns with beer by the pitcher, big deer, big fish, and bar-b-que that’s out of this world. Great universities, and great small community colleges. Best football anywhere, best basketball, best baseball, and some of the fastest sprinters on the tracks. Pro sports and pewee baseball, with everything between. We wave and say ‘Howdy’ to everyone we meet. We’ve got it all and I’m proud.

I’m proud of RealTexas as well. You’re on the right track, David. We need to tell others about this great state, and you have pointed us in the right direction. Get in high and get this blog going……………….BT
